To celebrate the holiday, we’ve made available as a featured title (free to all!) the book Turkey Bowl by Phil Bildner, illustrated by C.F. Payne. A great read-aloud for all ages, this picture book stars nine-year-old Ethan, who is finally old enough to play football in his family’s annual Turkey Bowl. But he wakes up on the holiday to a road-closing blizzard! Will he ever get to play?
By The Light of the Harvest Moon by Harriet Ziefert and illustrated by Mark Jones is the story of Apple Hill Farm which glows under the full harvest moon, surrounded by autumn leaves at the peak of their glory. The leaf people awaken to celebrate the first day of fall…with a slice of pumpkin pie!
And for youngest book-lovers, we offer Over the River based on the traditional Thanksgiving song (“Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother’s house we go…”). But in this version, reinterpreted by Derek Anderson, a turkey family is on its way to Grandmother and Grandfather Gobbler’s house. A boy and his dog are in hot pursuit, however. Anderson (who you may know from his illustrations on Lauren Thompson’s Little Quack books) makes the most of this comical scenario.
All of us at Readeo wish you a safe and wonderful holiday!
